Increased Safety Inspections for Rolling Scaffolds: Key Updates and Tips

This year, the safety of scaffolding, especially rolling scaffolds, is back in the spotlight, this time with even more emphasis than before. Recent figures from the Dutch Labour Inspection indicate that the number of accidents and even fatal incidents in the construction sector in 2023 was higher than in previous years. Falling from height remains one of the most common accidents, prompting the Labour Inspection to pay extra attention to scaffold safety.

These findings underscore the importance of safety when working at height and highlight the necessity of thorough inspections. A recent article on our website, titled “Rolling Scaffolds Once Again Under the Microscope by the Labour Inspection,” offers additional insights on this topic. It discusses how rolling scaffolds, often purchased via online shops at low prices, frequently lack essential components. Stabilizers, platforms, and railings are crucial for the safe use of rolling scaffolds but are often missing from cheaper sets. Not only is this dangerous, but it also violates legal regulations. Therefore, we urge you to carefully check that all required parts are included when purchasing a rolling scaffold set.

The Labour Inspection will start to take stricter action against employers who allow their employees to work in unsafe conditions. A self-inspection called “Healthy and Safe Working” has been developed to help employers identify risks, take appropriate measures, and check if their occupational safety policies are up to date. This self-inspection offers a valuable opportunity to evaluate your organization from the perspective of inspectors. You can carry out the self-inspection at zelfinspectie.nl, where you will receive a useful list of action points with potential improvements after completion.

Workplace safety is of utmost importance, and with these updates and tips, we aim to raise awareness of the risks and help everyone involved to work safely at height.
